Pontiac was an American maker of several vehicles. Many people were loyal the brand all the way up to when it stopped producing a line. You still can find many Pontiac made cars, trucks, and SUV's on the road today. Many people loved the style and the brand overall. They are not willing to let their vehicle go just yet and that means that they have to maintain it as long as possible. The problem at this point becomes where to get the parts and what kinds of parts they need to maintain their vehicle at optimal efficiency. The buyer may not know that there are two types of parts manufacturers on the market OEM and aftermarket.
If you are looking for "factory Pontiac parts" then you are looking for OEM parts. OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer. It sounds like that you are getting the parts from the vehicle manufacturer, however, that may only sometimes be true. The truth is that you are getting the parts from the company that the vehicle manufacturer used to produce the part when it build your vehicle. The good thing about these types of the parts is that they live up to the standards put up by the vehicle manufacturer, in other words, the vehicle manufacturing company stands behind these parts for the most part. They know what the part will do in the machine and they know how the part will interact with all the other parts. It is, generally, why OEM parts do not void the warranty.
The converse of this fact is true. Aftermarket parts do not have to follow the standards of the vehicle manufacturer and that reason alone is the reason that these types of parts tend to void the warranty. The vehicle manufacturer has no idea how the part will behave in the in the car, truck, or SUV. They cannot guarantee it will work and that is a problem they cannot cover so you will find that most, if not all, aftermarket parts are not recommended by the vehicle manufacturer and they cannot be called "factory Pontiac parts". The standards some aftermarket manufacturers use are arbitrary and set forth by the company itself. You are at the mercy of the company at this point. You might be paying less but you may also be getting far less quality than you expect or need. You may have to buy several aftermarket parts in order to find a good company, however, you can find one upfront if you are lucky.
However, if you are looking to have a part work right from the first box or package opening then you need to consider what kind of experience you want to have with the part. If you do not mind wasting some money trying to find someone who is reputable and is going to deliver good quality parts for your car, truck, or SUV. If you get factory Pontiac parts or genuine OEM parts, then you do not need to worry about that at all. You know that the part will work from the very beginning and you will have a good experience. Otherwise, you could do more damage to your car, truck, or SUV by getting an ineffectual part. The worst thing it could do is ruin your car and the least it could do is to be a minor irritant to your plans.
